From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
A fact: not all the content can be 100 % localized.
Right now, I’m preparing some content for the next UEFA EURO 2024. This makes a lot of sense in Spain, since football is the sport nº1 (and 2 and 3, but that’s another story), “La Roja” (the Spanish national team) is very popular and they won the competition some years ago.
But this content is not relevant in Norway (they didn’t make it to the final round), U.S. or Japan (both countries won’t be in this competition for obvious reasons).
And even for countries that will be in the competition, the content is quite different depending on each team background, goals and expectations.
So more than a localization effort, I’m mainly working in content creation: very little of translation and a lot of research and content writing from scratch.
I’m not saying is ALWAYS necessary to have this skills. In my experience it is, but that’s because I know how to do it and I take on projects that involves content creation.
The more I work in the industry, the more I realized how important is to have some content creation skills. You have -of course- to be able to understand the source language and adapt it to your market. But a lot of times this will include some content creation skills.
My advice will be to learn the basics about content creation (in terms of writing flows, copywriting, content writing, etc.), read a lot in your language and write, write and write. Even if is not work related, take that habit and use it later on your projects.

Resources to reach your peak level.
💡Today I don’t bring a resource, but an event: this year marks 70 years since of Machine Translation. Interesting with all the AI stuff we are seeing these days.
Outside the desk
Where the magic really happens.
🏔️ Jump in paragliding from 2,400 meters, dance with a DJ in the middle of the mountains, swim in a very cold lake. That was part of my weekend.
🚗 Tomorrow I’m heading to the French Basque Country for a couple of days.
🧀 Can we talk about French cheese? Is good (God, is so good) and I love how many ways they have to use it. Last week I tried the raclette for the first time… and won’t be the last.
