Do you need to be creative to work in localization?
"To Be or Not to Be", that's the question...
From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
I’ve always consider myself as a creative person. Growing up, I loved to write (created my own book at the age of 7!), to draw and to imagine stories to play with my little brothers.
Then I started doing creative presents for my family and friends: a personalized Monopoly, gift cards with Photoshop and more.
So when I went to university to study Journalism first and Advertising later, I wasn’t afraid of creating new things.
Then I dived into the copywriting world and there were kind of a “war” between “you need to be creative” and “you don’t even need to know how to write”.
Here are some thoughts I have about it:
Creativity is something we all have, in a way or another. Someone who writes an ad is creative, but also a chef cooking a new dish, a basketball player finding his way to hoop or the shop assistant helping you to find the best clothes.
There is a natural part on being creative, but there is also a lot you can learn to get there. From your environment to specific courses and exercises.
In my experience, being creative in localization is a plus. I work a lot with creative copy (ads, headlines, marketing campaigns) and is really helpful to have this mindset.
You can use the creativity in any way you want. As I said, it helps me a lot with my localization work, but also to come up with ideas to find new clients, develop new services or even save time with all the admin stuff you have to deal with as a freelancer (and believe me, is a lot).
If you want to get better at creativity or just explore some possibilities in your daily work, hit me an answer and will be happy to help out.

Resources to reach your peak level.
💡So creativity is good for localization. What about tech? You definitely need to have some knowledge about it and this article can help.
Outside the desk
Where the magic really happens.
🏀 I’m in Málaga, Spain, remembering the old days as a journalist and helping a friend to cover one of the major basketball events in Europe: la Copa del Rey.
🏃🏽♂️ I’m getting back at running, trying to squeeze at list one season a week (the day I don’t do CrossFit). Good feelings for sure.
🥤 Last Monday I went for a drink with someone I used to work with some years ago (online, so it was the first time we met IRL). ¡Hola Fran!
