Why you should always include this in your localization strategy

Valencia Update: I’m okay, my family and closest friends are okay. But the situation over there is still crazy, with the number of victims increasing day after day. I’m dealing with the frustration of being far away and keep up with my work, but is not easy.
Thanks to everyone who is asking and helping out. It means a lot, really.
Back to business, I had a very interesting call at the beginning of the week with a potential client. We were discussing some ways of collaboration and her main focus was editing past articles.
They have A LOT of content (thousands of blog articles) in Spanish… but most of them are outdated, quality is not excellent and haven’t had a proper localization copywriter looking after them. Now they are collaborating with some freelancers and need my help to keep the work.
Sometimes it feels like editing is a “waste of time”: you want to create new content, you want to show off your skills and you might think that is not worthy to re-work all of that.
But it is. And here are 5 reasons why:
Keeps Up with Competitors: Regularly updating content ensures you stay competitive in search rankings by matching or surpassing your rivals' quality and relevance.
Better User Experience (UX): Refreshing content with accurate and engaging information enhances the user experience, making visitors more likely to stay, engage, and convert.
Increases Organic Traffic: Improved content freshness and relevance can lead to higher search rankings, driving more organic traffic to your website.
Improves Content Quality and Readability: Refining readability and adding multimedia elements makes your content more appealing and easier to consume.
Improves Content Relevance: Updating keywords, facts, and data keeps your content in line with current search trends and user expectations.
For certain industries (like traveling, where I’ve been working a lot), this is specially relevant: the “best places to go in X” change every year, as well as restaurants, hotels and other relevant information.
My recommendation would be to have a system and have this as an ongoing work while you create new content.

💔 My mind is in Valencia this week. Lanzarote is still amazing, but I can’t really enjoy here while there are things going on there.
📖 I finished a book (an essay) and I’m back with Brandon Sanderson, starting the novel “Warbreaker”.
🥤 Something very local: there is a drink here, “Clipper”, that tastes like a strawberry soda and you can just find it in the Canary Islands. And I’m in love with it.
