Even locals didn't understood this translation... and why that's good

From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
I’m a big MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe Fan). I’ve seen all the movies (some of them, multiple times), most of the TV shows and I’ve read some comics too.
Last week, they presented the official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine and the hype was at the highest.
In case you don’t know anything about Deadpool (the character and the movies), he is quite unique: there are popular references all around, his language is not for everyone (all his movies are “Restricted”, meaning just people over 18 can watch them) and has some strong jokes.
Why? To have a strongest connection.
With all those popular references, the translators for this movie have to work harder: is not just a language thing, is a cultural thing (hello, localization).
Going back to the official trailer, at the end of it, the image goes black and you can just see one thing.
PEC.
Even if you have a C2 in Spanish, even if you are bilingual, even if you are from Spain and live in Spain… you might not understand this (if you see the Mexican trailer, is not there).
PEC stands for “Por El Culo” (literally, by the ass).
Young people in Spain, when they think something is cool, they say PEC.
Buah, estas croquetas PEC // Wow, this croquettes by the ass
This is one of the best localization examples I can think of. It really gives you a intimate connection (since not everyone is gonna know the meaning), and when you see it you think “okay, this is just for me”.
That’s how I like to think localization should be.

💡I’m not discovering anything new, but lately I’ve been using Canva for some side projects and is always worthy to mention. From someone who learned Photoshop and used to spend ours on it.
Outside the desk
Where the magic really happens.
🏔️ Last Sunday I arrived to Pyren'Escape, a coliving in the mountains. Snow, hikes, interesting people and great food for the next 3 weeks.
🌆 On my way here I a spent couple of days in Barcelona visiting old and new friends. I lived there for 2 years and is always special to go back.
🥾 Yesterday was Labour Day and I took advantage of it with a loooooong hike on the French Pyrenees.
Make it global, baby
