How many calendars do you have on your calendar?
Right answer in localization: more than one (probably even more)
From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
If this email finds you in any country of the world with a name different than “Spain”, is probably just a regular day.
Cold if you are north, hot if you are south.
But not in Spain.
In Spain today is a puente (bridge) betweeen 2 bank holidays: 6th December (Constitution Day) and 8th December (Feast of the Immaculate Conception).
So, for these 2 days:
Schools are closed.
Public institutions are closed.
A lot of businesses (including some supermarkets, stores and services companies) are closed.
The 7th is a regular work day though, but many people just take the day off so they have a longer weekend. This year, if you take today off, you can have a 5-day weekend.
And yes, if you work with a marketing or localization agency in Spain, they are probably off today. And for sure, yesterday and tomorrow.
Also, these are not days with a specific plan: no family gather (we’ll have it in 2 weeks for Christmas), specials parades or anything. So is a perfect time to travel without spending a lot of days off, stay at home and prepare Christmas decorations or do a bit of both.
And why is this important?
Because if you are communicating in Spain, you should know all of this and, depending on your strategy, maybe address it. I’ll give you some examples:
You have a travel agency: From months ago, you know about this festivity (Puente de la Constitución) and offer special packages for it, communicating the benefits of travelling during this week (low season outside Spain, cheap deals, no need of taking a lot of days off).
You have a furniture eCommerce: This might be a good chance to do a specific campaign for some Christmas stuff (if you have some) or just regular furniture and take these free days to redecorate your home.
You are a gaming brand: It is cold outside, there is no school and no special plans to do. Chances of kids (and adults too) staying warm inside, setting up their PlayStation/Xbox/Computer and spend some quality hours playing video games are high. You can promote a special offer, drop some new games or create a special event for them.
Having in mind the local calendars and, more important, what each day means for your local audience, will let you advance the competence and find some nice opportunities that no one else is taking.

Outside the desk
Where the magic really happens.
✈️ This is my last week in New York and, with some days off for Spain, I have 2 friends coming over and visiting. So a lot of time outside the desk for me.
🗽 What a city. This time of the year, with all the Christmas lights on, I bet is one of the most amazing places in the world. I wouldn’t live here long-term, but is a special place for sure.
🍿I haven’t shared what I’m watching in a while. Last week I finished “The Witcher” (good, but below my expectations) and I’m also getting started with “Parks & Recreations”
Make it global, baby
