From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
I wrote this yesterday on LinkedIn
"If I weren’t a copywriter, I’d be a teacher."
That’s a fact. I still think my career can take that path in the future (and if you are wondering, I’d LOVE to teach philosophy or literature).
I was thinking about that because I started a new position as a copywriter professor at IEM Business School. And while the Master is about Digital Marketing, I wanted to share what I’d teach first on a localization copywriting course:
Creative writing: This skill is essential to create unique and natural content. You’ll have material in the source language, but you need this creativity to adapt it to the local market and ensure the message feel fresh.
Adapting Brand Tone Consistently Across Markets: Ensuring a brand's voice is maintained while adapting to local preferences helps preserve brand identity globally. It’s important because it fosters brand trust and recognition, making the content relatable while staying true to the brand’s essence.
Leveraging AI and Technology for Localization: AI is a reality. Among other tools, you’ll need them on a daily basis. This will help students understand how to use technology efficiently while still applying a human touch to refine tone and cultural nuance.
Real-World Practice through Adaptation Workshops: To be good at writing (at any kind of writing), you need to write. Period. For my class last week I prepared different exercises and study cases to work on them. Practical exercises allow copywriters to apply localization principles to real campaigns.
Actually, I don’t think there are many localization courses. And I know there are not many localization copywriting schools out there. I’ll leave a note here for the future Ricky to work on one.
Outside the desk
Where the magic really happens.
🏝️ Last week in the Lanzarote Paradise. It’s been a blast and I’m 100 % sure I’ll be back next year.
🍿 TV wise, I’m watching a TV show call “Citas” (“Dates”), where some of the episodes are in Catalan. If you want some easy-romantic content, this one is for you.
🧤 I’m landing in Valencia on Sunday and I’m already planning how can I help there with all the flooding. THANKS to everyone who has been asking me and helping Valencia in these past weeks.
Make it global, baby
If you want to work with me, this is the way.
