From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
I love scuba diving.
I took my certification 5 years ago and, even though I haven’t been able to dive a lot in the last years, is always special. You feel in a different world, every time is a different experience and, since you can’t talk or look at your phone, is a real connection with nature.
But that’s not the topic for today.
Do you know which sign you have to do to say “Everything is okay”?
Is not 👍.
Instead, is 👌.
The reason is simple: the first one indicates that you want to go up… all the opposite of being okay under the sea.
There is more.
In Spain, right now, you don’t use “👍” if you are under 30 years old.
In countries like Brazil or Turkey, “👌” is offensive.
Yes, localization also applies to emojis. Here some examples:
🐐: this can be just a goat, but in a sports context GOAT stands for “Greatest Of All Time”. Leo Messi or Michael Jordan would be the GOATs.
🍆 & 🍑: in some countries, they are just fruits. In other, it has a more sexual meaning.
And these are things that you wouldn’t know unless you live in the country and use the social media there (i.e.: I lived in Korea years ago and they don’t use WhatsApp… and their use of the emojis was also quite different).
This is specially important if you are gonna work localizing posts for social media, push notifications, META ads or even emails.
Is that 👌?

🏀 Diving, surfing and hiking is a good recap from my last days in Gran Canaria. Tonight is basketball time.
🎸 Remember my Finish friend from last week? We went hand-by-hand together to a music festival and was really fun
💍 Anyone else watching “The Rings of Power”? I wanted to wait until all the episodes were out and I’m already half way there.
Make it global, baby
