From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
Couple of days ago (Tuesday) was “Sant Jordi”: a local festivity (we know it in Spain, but where is really a big thing is in Barcelona) to celebrate the World Book Day.
If you are a global brand communicating in Catalunya or Barcelona, I’d make something special for this day. You have one year to think about it.
As a big reader, I love this day. The streets are full of people walking around with their books and roses, buying new books and meeting the writers. And this got me thinking about one think.
As a localization copywriter, is it important to read?
My answer: is important. Is not mandatory. But is a HUGE plus.
I don’t read because I’m a copywriter. It could actually be the other way around: I’m a copywriter because I love to read.
So I read because I enjoy it. Period.
Lucky me, this is also great for my job. Reading makes me have a better vocabulary, research about any topic faster and provide a better service to my clients.
Real case: Years ago, I worked in a project about public speaking. The author had a book and it was a pleasure to read it. I also got other books about the topic and with this and the usual research, I could land a pretty good idea about it and feel more confident working with this specific author.
Now, what do I read?
First, I’m not this kind of person who has a routine of “read 30’' a day” or “150 pages a week”. I don’t work that way.
I usually have 2 books around: a fiction and a non-fiction book. The fiction one (from crime novel to Game of Thrones) gets more of my attention. I just love it.
For the non-fiction… I just take those from time to time and if they are really gonna share something different.
What about you? Team “I love to read” or team “I have to read? Share it with me!
Market-in
Resources to reach your peak level.
💡Of course, today it has to be about books. For entrepreneurs, I can recommend anything from Mike Michalowicz. In the localization field, I read “The Culture Map” a couple of years ago and I keep saying how great it is.
Outside the desk
Where the magic really happens.
🚅 A quick scape to Madrid to meet IRL some ex-coworkers. It was great to share our memories from years ago.
🤖 I started a new TV show: Mr. Robot. Has been around my head for a while and after a couple of episodes, is looking promising.
🏀 More TV: NBA playoffs are on. I’d bet Denver Nuggets repeat their championship, with Boston Celtics losing the finals.
Make it global, baby
If you want to work with me, this is the way.
