From the bottom of my heart mind
Fresh stories from a Spanish Copywriter.
If someone ask me to sum up my working story, would be something like this:
I love to write>I start writing>I enroll in a journalism degree>I keep studying advertising>I combine both to make a living writing in marketing>I travel>I learn English>I keep working as a marketing copywriter>I start as a freelancer>I discover localization>Today
The first university degree in Spain was just in 1971. There were no ads until then?
No. But professionals would come from other places… and those ‘80s ads in Spain where magic.
Try to speak to, for example, 10-20 localization professionals. I’m sure each of them have a different background: some of them might come from the translation industry, others more from project managers positions, some of them might have a past as content writers.
And probably some of them studied something that is 100% unrelated with languages, marketing or localization.
You know what?
I think that’s beautiful.
We are in a fairly new industry (at least as we know it now). And your background can be your key for success, so don’t be afraid of using it.
Do you have a past in a specific industry? Try to start a specialization out of it or reach out to the main players and offer them your services.
Are you good at marketing? Help others to be too.
Do you come from a more scientific background? Develop your own method and promote it.
Think about your background and how unique it it. Think about how no one has a pure education to be a localization copywriter, localization manager or whatever.
And use it for your profit and the profit of this industry.
Market-in
Resources to reach your peak level.
💡I have to say, most of the podcast I listen are not work related. But if I’d start listening to any of them, here is a good way to start.
Outside the desk
Where the magic really happens.
✈️ I spent last week in Euskadi and was great. So great that I’ll be back in couple of weeks. What a special place.
🏋️♂️ And this weekend you can spot me as a volunteer for a Spanish CrossFit competition.
🏠 I’m almost done with moving…and it is more satisfying than any writing project. If you’ve suffered it, you know it.
Make it global, baby
If you want to work with me, this is the way.
